Annual Meeting June 17/18 2025 at the University of Zurich

The Future of Career Services

Welcome to the CSNCH Annual Meeting 2025

The Career Services at universities build a bridge between universities and the job market, between talents and companies. They play a central role in the transition from studying to working life and help to ensure that this is optimal in terms of both time (fast) and quality (suitable). They therefore influence

  • the postgraduate career success of graduates,
  • employers' recruitment and their access to talent,
  • the impact that a university achieves through its graduates, as well as the attractiveness of studying at a university.

Despite their potentially great importance, career services were introduced relatively late in Switzerland compared to other countries (with a few exceptions). While career services in higher education have existed in the USA since 1900 (Cruzvergara & Dey, 2014), the association for career services in the UK AGR was founded 1968 and its German counterpart CSND in 2003 (www.csnd.de), in Switzerland, however, universities only began to establish career services across the country from around 2005, and the CSNCH association was only officially founded in 2020.

In recent months, career services at several universities in Switzerland have been realigned. The aim of this conference is to take stock: Where do we stand today with the work of career services in Switzerland? And how can we further develop the role of career services and their dedicated staff, who are committed and passionate about their work?
